Crazy Boys

Today started at 6:15. I am so proud of myself for getting up on my own. I guess it is good practice for class next year. I went to one of the younger girls' circle this morning. I love all of the kids here, but I am really starting to love this one little girl, Jessy. She is such a sweet girl, and never gets in trouble. She does well in school. I had to watch about fifty boys in the gym this morning, there were three other girls that helped, too. They are so wild. They found all of these bugs and thought it was so funny to put them in my hair. After a couple of times, they decided it was not a good idea. Samuel found a giant beetle. It was so big, but it was pretty cool, though. There is wild cilantro growing outside of our house back door. It smells so good. Marisol came and picked some yesterday to cook with it. I showed some of the kids what "touch-me-nots" are. They think it is so cool. We went on a thirty minute walk today to find them. They are pretty neat. The Hate's roof is getting put back on. There is not too much more to do. The government officials were here today, so everyone had to be on their extra, best behavior. It was quite an eventful day. I got to take a nap this afternoon, with my great fan. I slept so good. It was very clear outside today. It hasn't rained in two days, which is odd, but I am sure it will within the next day or so. Thanks for all of the comments! I love and miss you all!

6:15 a.m. thats early - did you go to bed early last night? I am really proud of you for waking up on your very own - No DADDY alarm clock to wake you up on five minute intervals - instead of the snooze button - you've got the super nice, patient, loving, dad button = knowing dad like we do- he will probably call you every 5 minutes next year to wake you up - so you can make it to class. Isn't it great to have such a fantastic daddy. I know I have one too!

You know I always need lots of details and you always leave so many out.. were the bugs dead or alive - if they were alive- did they make buzzing sounds - and could you give us just alittle more details about - how - "after a couple of times the boys decided it was not a good idea"?? Could it have been something you said or did to make them aware of that. Having an obnoxious little brother - I am sure gave you all the skills you need to handle 50 mischievious boys. :) Bugs in the blonde hair - now I know the OE kids probably had as much fun with that as they do watching you play soccer. Would that make you the Orphanage Emmanuel Jester????

Wild cilantro - I am so glad you are enjoying that there. One of our family favorites - I know you are collecting recipes for Ank - but get us some ideas for using cilantro - we have the homemade salsa one down pat. I have high hopes for your education from Jenny on tortilla making and Oriris on the sweet bread. Work hard and be a good cooking student. Good food is one of the great things in life!!

Were the Height's at OE when their roof blew off? Are they there now? Who is putting the roof back on.

I hope all was well with the government officials - I know how stressful that can be to everyone (to have them visit). Even when you follow the rules every single day - having someone in power come in and judge your work can cause many anxious moments. I certainly hope you withheld from ignoring the tantrums of toddlers and obstained from bribing children with money.
In my experience - no matter how practical - government officials don't take too highly to the use of these tactics. I am kidding you - I know how much you love all the children at OE and how being there is where God has called you this summer.

Thirteen days until I can see you - or until you can see me - I bet you are counting the days for that - HA HA and 20 until you are back in Auburn. I hope you enjoy every minute of this fantastic adventure that God has given to you. I love you!!!

Dear Hopey,
I can just see all the boys, the bugs, and your blonde hair. I'll bet they stopped only after you gave them a piece of your mind.

I had my hair trimmed today and went to see my heart nurse. He gave me a good report, thank goodness. I have another echocardiogram next Wed. and then see the doctor. That test will tell me how my heart is doing and if it has improved.

The most incredible thing happened today. We let Tweetie out all day, with her cage/food on the front porch. Anky and I (her parents) can tell her cheep, of course. She was high in all the trees in our yard. I would go out and check on her periodically, when I was here. I left before Anky did after lunch. He went out, heard her high up in a tree across the street in our neighbor's yard. He called her and she flew across the street and swooped down on his shoulder. He put her near her cage on the front porch and then left.

When I returned about 5PM today I called her. I could not hear her in the front yard, so I took the little table and her cage around to the patio. I heard her cheep high up in one of our backyard trees. I called her, and she swooped down and landed on my shoulder. She seemed so excited to see me. What an unbelieveable experience for both of us!! She's safely in her cage in the kitchen tonight. We plan to let her out tomorrow also.

Wish I could write more, but I'm extremely tired. I must go to bed. Lots of LOVE, HUGS, KISSES, but NO raspberries!!!CIS

Hi Hopey:

It ws great to chat with you last night! You sound great. With each passing day we are all getting more and more excited about coming to see you (and the orphanage of course). There is worry about the bus ride (I understand it is about 6 hrs. from airport to orphanage), but we will be fine. Great to read your blog (Mom read them to me during my trip). I can't wait to meet Jessy. All of the orphans are so special, but there are always ones which especially stick out in my mind (Gabriel, Michelle, Marisol, Dunia, Oscar). How old is she? Is she in any of your posted pictures (I really like to look at those). Bugs in your hair! I can see them doing that, and your reaction probably caused them to keep on doing it. I'll bet you set them straight. Glad to hear that your sleep is finally getting adjusted. A nap under a fan sounds quite nice! Weather is still very dry here. I loved the weather in San Francisco. Only to come back and feel like I was in a sauna! Maybe the rainy season is winding down for you. I look forward to chatting with you tonight. Please take care. Love, Dad
