It's Raining, It's Pouring!

Today, I woke up bright and early at 6:15. Yes, that's right, I woke up on my own with an alarm. I went to the older girls/special circle this morning. It was quite a circle. Stephanie got in trouble numerous times for not being quiet and not listening. Surprise, surprise. We had a break this morning after circle until ten. I had my usual breakfast of poptarts, and took a nap until ten. At ten, I worked in the clinic. I organized more files and determined what kids have not had physicals yet this year, and which ones must be done with the next team of doctors arrives. I went to the older boy's yard, and had a nice lunch of rice, potato, tomato, and chicken soup. It was surprisingly super good. After lunch, I went back to the medical clinic and organized even, more files. I am finally done. For dinner, I ate with the toddlers. I had two, HUGE tortillas. As we have taught Erlan, one of the toddlers to say, "yummy, in my tummy!". It poured for about forty five minutes during dinner. Lighting, thunder, and all! We definitely had to wait for it to stop before walking back to our house. Today we learned that Tegucigalpa is only doing national flights now, which means no more flying into Tegucigalpa until the landing strip gets lengthened. So, all flights have been transferred to Comoyaguela. Which means, instead of a two hour bus ride to the orphanage from the airport, it is now a four hour bus ride. Also, instead of paying seventy dollars for a taxi, it is now one forty. The more people you have in your taxi, the cheaper it will be, once the price is divided. The boy's volunteer house, has come to the conclusion that they have a rat problem. There is one big, mama rat who has litters about every two weeks. She likes to have them under one of the bed, nightstands. She also likes to get in bed, under the covers with one of the volunteers. I am so glad we do not have rats in the girl's house. They have set up numerous traps, but are still unable to catch her. I did not go to town today. Tomorrow, we are taking a girl named, Esperanza, in town for some tests, so we get to take the hospital truck! Yay! No two mile walk to town. Hopefully, it won't rain in the morning. We are going to leave around eight. Bright and early! I love you and miss you all!

Ok -question for you who is that in the orange shirt? - I notice that you are putting pictures of Armando in everyday - I hope Mrs. Kim is seeing them. I knew you would have pictures of Oscar kissing you - although I must say that close up shot is a little scary. Whoa that is really close - and I am not at all suprised that Oscar is SOOOO posing for the camera what a little smooser. He should be a marketing executive. Have you seen any good play yard fights since the first? Poor Stephanie - did mommy make her stand in the middle of the Circle for acting up during devotion time - What a life - get up pray alittle - eat a pop tart and back to bed for a nap. Why am I not suprised that you are ORGANIZING!!! Did you actually eat a tomato for lunch? I don't know whether to be happy that we aren't flying into the Teguc airport in a few weeks or sad that we have to ride that bus for 4 hours - or scared that the OE bus won't make it that far and back - or even more worried that we might end up in some roadside Honduran Prison being guarded by the machine gun guys from last year - trying to put all of our dollars together for the head honduran military police guy. Does that mean we will all have to take taxis? - Did Rudy get the rock out of his ear?? So Esperanza is going with Esperanza to the Hospital - what is wrong with her. I can't believe you are complaining about the walk to town - it really isn't that bad - just wild dogs, people racing by on bicycles, people pointing and calling you a gringo and a few long horned bulls in the street - I really can't imagine why you are so excited about taking the hospital truck - Watch out for RATS!! Love you.

Hi Hope:

Thanks again for the blog. I especially liked the pictures. Who is that with you in picture #43? Thanks for the news about the airport. It should have been lengthened a long time ago. You mentioned that it will be shut down for international flights until lengthened? Is that correct, or will they simply wait the 50 days you mentioned when we were chatting last night? I don't look forward to the long bus ride, but if it is safter to land elsewehere that is fine with me. Will the orphanage bus still come pick us up? Sounds like you have the medical clinical in tip top shape? When will the next group of doctors arrive? Do you have any pictures of Gabriel? Sorry for so many question. I am living through your blogs until we can get there (Kati and Davis are very excited). Your comments about the food make me hungry. Love you.

Oh dear...rats? That takes me back to the days of rats in the activities building at AFBC!!! Eeewwww! Yuck, yuck, yuck!!!

Hope all goes well with the girl and tests in town today. I am glad you will fly out of a safer airport. However, very sorry for your 4 hour ride to the airport! I am very thankful that you weren't on the flight that had the accident. Geeze, scary.

I hear that all is going well in Auburn as well as Honduras! Nice to know things keep going when you are gone. Your mom keeps me updated on the happenings of your life around here! :) Off to look at your photos later.

Oh, and with the naps you are getting in each day, you should have plenty of energy for the two mile walk into town. Just think of the gas you aren't spending that you would be if you were here in Auburn!! You are saving money while in Honduras!!

I just read your mom's post! You have many reasons to not want to walk into town!!! Oh my!

And I forgot about them flying down there in a few weeks. I hope the airport is repaired quickly!

Oh my after reading Mrs. Kellie's blog - I laughed and laughed and then got the hybee gybee's remembering the rats in the Activities Building - and how they were so bold and would just look at you as if to ask - "what do you need" - maybe you could try some of your "rat ridding" techniques from AFB - if I remember - like spraying them with windex - hysterically screaming at them or my favorite - offering them cheez-its and popcorn - if they would commit to remaining under the sink. Maybe these rats are related - they sound pretty bold. At least in Auburn- our Bug Man would actually catch a few every now and then. I won't publically post the grand total that were caught and that he would remove for us that summer. - We are off to Davis's 2nd playoff game tonight. GO INDIANS!!!! We will let you know the outcome - Love you so much!

Its Cis and Kate again. We thought we would express to you our concern of you high intake of carbohydrates, or bluntly, starches. ENjoy your yallow munchies. But don't forget how much you love asparagus ;)! I might smuggle some across the border for you even. Get very excited. How long do you expect your Poptarts to last you? Cis like cherry and i like chocolate. Hugs, kisses, and hurray for processed foods! -Cis and kate-
