June 8, 2008

Hey everyone! Sorry, I did not post last night, the power was out. It wasn't even raining, so no one knows why it was out. it is finally back on now. I realized without having power, how much I like my fan at night. I think I like it more for the sound, but it is great. Church was good. A team is here until Thursday afternoon, so one of the team members preached. It was the traditional if you don't have Jesus in your heart, please come up, and we will pray together....... All the kids looked completely bored. They could pretty much recite the whole sermon to you. After, the preacher from town, added on to the sermon. It was great. He is such a good pastor. Sunday, means no work. all of the boys got to relax. We have started hanging out with the boys more. They are so fun. In the bakery, Osiris is making sweet bread. It is amazing. It is sold in the store for two limparas a piece. I want to learn how to make it, but along with tortillas, it is not as good, when I try to cook it. The clinic is moving along. We are now done with all of the first grades, and working on the second graders. It takes quite a bit of time. I am on kid-watching duty at the clinic. It is very hard to keep the kids occupied on a sidewalk for three hours. We played the quiet game yesterday, and the winners one a limpara. It was awesome! The kids calmed down for forty-five minutes. They thought it was the greatest game, ever!It is very hot today. Hopefully, it will start raining, soon. At least it should tonight!

Finally - I was having withdrawals -

You like your fan huh ... - aren't you glad you carried it

I CAN'T BELIEVE that you bribed those darling children with money. You are so BAD. With the wonderful mother you have - I am also suprised that you resorted to bribery - HA - I guess you have some personal experience about how the art of bribery can really motivate children - you are just experiencing it from the mom side -instead of the kid side -

I have such a weakness for bread - I hope I will have the chance to taste it when I am there - You must learn to make the bread and tortillas - or maybe just hang out with me while I learn - You can do it Hope!!!

Don't be so hard on the team - remember last year when we planned creation bracelets - and memory verses and VBS stuff and we got there and we were blown away at all the bible knowledge the kids knew - and how we struggled to say one simple memory verse and the kids would get up and recite entire books of the bible. I will never forget that - and I think that is one thing that certainly blessed me that I wasn't expecting.
I also remember that Poppy said alot of the children have the knowledge, but haven't accepted Jesus as their personal Savior. Much like here. With all that in mind - I think the relationships that are being built with the children are so important. Who knows maybe the timing of hearing the same thing last night - may have been God's timing - And that last night may have been the special day that they did accept Jesus for their very own.

Did I really read it right... Did you say you hoped it would rain soon.... When I looked at weather.com today - it said the temp at OE was 83 - can you believe that yesterday the temperature in Auburn - got to 97 degrees -a record - and NO RAIN yet. I am leaving work to go water Dad's tomatos and EVERYTHING else.

Hi, Hope.
I went to Night Train rehearsal in Union City tonight. Coming home on I-85, I drove through an intense thunderstorm, with wind and driving rain. The lightning and thunder were spectacular. Sort of like driving with a strobe light outside the car. Maggie would have freaked! Not a drop fell in Auburn.
Love,
Ank
