Oh, Guaimaca

Today, I woke up early and went into town. Three girls from the orphanage also went with us, Dunia, Esperanza, and Osiris, they are all around my age. It was fun. It only took a few minutes at the hospital, so we went grocery shopping and went to the fruit and vegetable stand. I got twenty tortillas, peaches, rice, tomatoes, and a cucumber, all for around four dollars. Super cheap! We got to take the truck into town, which was a big treat! Everyone was staring and whistling, at all of us "greengos". It is quite an experience. There were only two bulls in the street today, so no major road blocks. I ate two tortillas for lunch and of course a few cheez-its. This afternoon we took the six younger toddlers, who are not old enough to be in school yet, on a walk. It is always an adventure. Memo and Erika are quite spoiled and when they get tired of walking they like to stop. They will not move. It take about fifteen minutes to coax them to walk again, and by that time, all of the others toddlers are way far ahead. I did not back down though,
and made them walk. They are always carried everywhere. Erika decided to throw a nice fit, and "cry" for twenty minutes. She finally stopped when she decided to swing and eat crackers. On our way back to the toddler dorm, we went by the wood shop, and all of the toddlers think it is just the coolest place ever, along with riding cabillos-horses. We found an enormous frog in a hole. We made it back to the toddler dorm with all six kids. Quite an accomplishment! Rudi's rock is out of his ear. He is such a mess! He will probably put another rock in his ear next week, and back to the clinic he will go. Thanks for all of the comments! It is so much fun to read them everyday! I love and miss you all!

I am SOOOO happy that Dunia went with you to town. She is one tough cookie and I know she loves you like a sister and isn't going to let anyone mess with you - although - I'm pretty sure I pity the fool that tries to mess with you with or without Dunia - they really wouldn't know what happened to them. You usually don't have to much trouble taking care of yourself - You have to take me to the fruit stand when I am there - you know that is likely to be one of my favorite things - I love that here - I can't wait to go to the Farmer's Market on Thurday night - so you know I have to experience that the Honduran way. Your blonde hair is a dead give away that your are not from around those part. "GREENGO" Maybe I should send Luis and Jesus to take care of you - we saw them last night and they asked how you were - I think they will email you. Two bulls = what a good day - that didn't slow you down to much did it. Man poor toddlers - you can be so mean - I think you have been around a few to many toddlers in your life and you have there number already - even if they don't speak much English. Toddler fits have no language barriers I suppose and knowing your stubborn streak - I am not surprised that you didn't pick anyone up and carry them because they refused to walk. Its good she finally decided to come to her senses and walk or you would still be sitting on the side of the road - in the dark waiting for the toddler to get up and walk wouldn't you. I will have so much fun watching you with your own children someday. I guess its a rite of passage - sometimes I don't know whether CIS wants to cry because she can remember her past so well or laugh because she knows I deserve the payback. I am soooo happy you saw a Sappo!! My only other comment is RUDY RUDY RUDY!!!! love you..... - infinity squared!!!

Hope, you just gave me another Jamaica flashback (thanks so much) with your lunch menu. We used to go into town and get these things called "patties." Kind of a tortilla looking mystery meat spicy thing. Months later, and I mean months, somebody told us they were usually donkey meat. Sounds like you're doing great with the toddlers. A two year old can be the strongest force of nature. Don't let'em mow you down. Take care.

Great to read your blog again. Real highlight of day to know how you are doing. I hope before you leave you will drive to town in truck (and please take a picture for me)! Just watch out for the cows. I can see the toddlers sitting there and not moving. Maybe a rain show would have got them to move. Thanks again for all of the information on the airport situation. I passed it on to Rob and Kim. Food is not that cheap here (obviously). Sounds like you are eating very well (with a few pop tarts and cheezits mixed in for nutritional balance). Love you and can wait to read more of "Hope's Honduran Adventures" tonight.

I wanted to know how you slept last night? - are you still waking up at 3:30 a.m. - Just to let you know last night I woke up at 3:30 a.m. so I was hoping you slept all night. When I got up to go down stairs - I heard a strange noise coming from your room - it was your alarm clock - really strange huh? I know there is a reason I couldn't sleep last night though - I had so many thoughts going through my mind after we chatted.
I am overwhelmed by how AWESOME it is that you heard God calling you and that you listened and obeyed and I am in awe of the blessings you are receiving. XOXOXO -
