Soccer, Honduras Style

This morning started bright and early with circle. Teenage girls can have quite an attitude. Two girls this morning decided that they didn't want to go to school. they refused to put on their uniforms. During circle, Lydia-Mommy, handed them their uniforms and told them to go and put them on. One girl walked off and tore hers and one girl dropped hers on the ground and stomped off. There is not much that you can do here to discipline. The only thing that can occur, is when a girls' yard has a party, the girls who misbehave can't go. But by the time they are fifteen or so, they don't care if they have to miss a party. I went to the farm and saw the boys working and the cows. There are three cows that are super pregnant. One cow was due three days ago, and still hasn't had her baby. Hopefully, she will have it soon. There are already two, baby calves. I got a quite refreshing diet pepsi and ice cream at the store. Armando also gave us a ride back to our house. He told me that he and Esperanza are getting married next year. It is so exciting! They are so cute! And such sweet kids! I played in the special yard today and spent about an hour blowing bubbles. Some of the teachers did not come to school today, so some kids got a nice break, today and yesterday. I had quite the experience playing soccer. Rudi and Pamela were he goalies. I definitely got demolished, and have determined that soccer, is definitely not my thing. The kids here are amazing soccer players, and play a lot rougher and bend the rules a little more than in the States. It is starting to pour here now, and rained a little this afternoon. t is nice though, because it cools it down. Church tonight was amazing. The preacher is awesome, and always prepares a lesson that the children, teenagers, and adults can understand. Communion was tonight and it is always neat to see the kids that truly have a relationship with Christ. Breakfast this morning was lemonade, and two peanut butter tortillas. I don't like peanut butter that much, but it is starting to taste really good. Dinner tonight is rice with cream of chicken soup and tortillas. It is pouring here so hard, is is coming in the windows. I love the rain! I love you all and miss you!

I am having a little bit of a hard time responding appropriately to your comment about Teenage girls having quite an attitude. I want to add my thoughts to that and then I think no just keep your thoughts to yourself. You are probably rolling your eyes at me right now aren't you - Well maybe I could say this -much like toddler behavior - I guess teenage girl attitude is a universal language also. You go mommy/Lydia - I ,as well as many other mothers of teenage girls am with you - but oh you have so many teenage girls. I guess taking away cell phones and car keys - is not really an effective method of punishment in Honduras.

I hope you can be there when the baby calf is born - probably a little like puppies being born - but on a much larger scale. Is the word "slaughter" still coming up there and is it making your skin crawl? Are they still hoping to have their own dairy -how close is this to a reality. Do you remember when Mr. Dan was talking to Alberto last summer on the bus- trying to get a feel for where they were in their efforts to get their dairy up and going and in broken english Alberto told Mr. Dan that all the cows were males and Mr. Dan looked at us and made a funny face and said - "well I think I may have figured out thier problem and we laughed and laughed and laughed so hard. With all those baby calves and pregnant moms - it seems that they may have figured out what there problem was huh?? - Mr. Dan is such a great teacher!! If you are riding in the back of the truck to go to town and back YOU MUST take a picture for me and daddy- we are really laughing at the images of that in our heads. Once again - things are much different there aren't they - even riding in the back of a truck can be special -

Do they call it the "special" yard at OE - that sounds so American and politically correct. But oh... those kids are so special and I know that is orginally what God put into your heart about how he could use you at the Orphanage. As long as I live I will be able to hear sweet Pamela singing at the top of her lungs in church. I don't think I will ever hear anything as sweet as long as I live.

Did the teachers have "teacher skip day"? I am very encouraged that these children are able to attend school too!

So Soccer is not your thing huh - I thought you determined that when you were about 5. DId you forget. And you must have had a lapse in memory... forgetting how good they are at soccer - try this one Mr. Dan and your beat up brother Davis playing the girls - or maybe better said - getting demolished by the girls - remember me fussing at Davis for acting like he was hurt and limping up the hill to the team house and Mr. Dan saying wait a minute - I think he gave it his best try- but I think he really is hurt - and he Mr. Dan thought he very well might be hurt too!! - Although, the girls gained new found respect for both Davis and Mr. Dan for not giving up and finishing the game even though they were CLEARLY out skilled. Don't think Davis will ever give a Honduran girl any smack talk about not being able to play ball because they are girls. I bet Rudi and Pamela loved every single minute of beating you at soccer - foot ball. Get Reina to give you some pointers or at least make sure you are on her team next time. Remember, as they reminded me last year - even when they are beating the stew out of each other and blood is coming out - "No problem Holly- we just playing"

Are you beginning to ration your poptarts and cheezits - you still have 4 weeks to go - Peanut Butter and Lemonade - I'm having a little trouble saying Yum to that mix.

I am so happy for you that church remains to be a very special time for you. God is so Good!!!

Enjoy the Rain! Enjoy the calm and peace that I know it brings to you. I love it too.

Oh and if you are feeling low and need your spirits lifted a little know that so many here are thinking of you and praying for you. Give Anna Rebecca a hug for me. And if you need it - by all means -get your self a "diet coke" You know how I feel about that-- you deserve lots of "Diet Cokes" XOXOXOXOX - I tried to make the hugs and kisses from me nice and neat - I know thats the way you like them! Your MA

I ditto Mom's thoughts on this blog. She is a great blog responder! I just saw Mr. Dan. He asked how everything was going and I gave him your email and blogspot address. I'll bet he'll respond with some cow insight. How old are Armando and Esperanza? Soccer is tough in Honduras, but you are a good U.S. soccer player (we have the pictures to prove it). Are you ready for the rainy season to end? I am sure. Worship service sounded great. Flight situation will work itself out. As always, great to read your blogs. Thanks for taking the time to do this for all of us. Love, Dad
